Where Hearing Meets Sound Artistry
Audiology for Musicians, Audio Enthusiasts & Sound Purists
If you’ve ever spent hours minutely adjusting your stereo, tweaking guitar pedals to discover your ideal tone, or searched endlessly for the perfect pair of headphones to match your system and that new audiophile recording, then you appreciate the value of sound quality.
At MacDonald Audiology in Rochester, we do, too.
Because hearing isn’t just biological, it’s musical, emotional, and essential to how you experience the world.
Why We Get It
Dr. MacDonald has a lifetime of writing, performing, collaborating and enjoying music. On vinyl/analog/digital equipment. Spurning portable .mp3 tracks for the richness of records or high-bandwidth, uncompressed digital audio. He’s hand-soldered his own components and customized guitars for resale.
Pair that with a 30+ year career, dovetailing a deep appreciation for the physics of sound and how to squeeze the most from every minute adjustment. You have one passionate professional who personally appreciates why hearing every nuance (or missing it) impacts your enjoyment and possibly your long-term success.
All Sound Lovers Welcome Here

Our Approach to Audiology for Audio Lovers
Hearing Aid Fine-Tuning for Audio Quality: We know that how you hear music is the most important, and so our audiologists prioritize musicality, stereo imaging, and tone, not just speech clarity.
Hearing Protection for Musicians: Custom in-ear monitors, musician earplugs, and filtered protection for rehearsals and shows.
Specialized Testing: We go beyond basic tests to evaluate how you perceive tone, frequency ranges, and distortion. Our VAE (virtual acoustic environment) allows you to direct your hearing preferences even further, focusing on those specific environments you struggle in.
Ongoing Support: We work with you to adjust your devices or develop strategies based on your own instrument, working musical environment, and personal preferences.
Why Sound Sensitivity Matters in Hearing Care
Your ability to hear impacts everything. Whether you’re crafting a track or listening to an old favorite, sound quality is personal and powerful. We understand that “just hearing” isn’t enough; you need clarity, balance, and full-spectrum richness.
